You Need to Make a Video…Now What?
Your boss has a meeting and the overwhelming need for more customers is urgent. The entire team feels the need to generate more revenue. If the team is not successful, people could lose their jobs as the company tries to cut costs. Everyone agrees that a video is one of the tools that could help and you have been assigned the task. But where do you begin? Who do you call to help? You Google video production companies, but you also know that websites can mislead people. After all, the only thing you can tell for sure about a company from their website is how good their website is.
Before you call anyone here are some basic questions you should expect to answer.
- What’s your objective? Branding? Increased sales? Etc.
- What’s your budget? A range is sufficient.
- What’s your timeframe? Hopefully, its weeks not days.
- Who’s your audience? What do you know about them?
- Where will the video be shown? Trade show, website, customer sales meeting, internal meetings, YouTube
Once you have this information it’s time to start calling. If no one answers the office phone during regular business hours it’s a safe bet that this is a one-person operation and the office phone is their cell phone. Probably best to pass these people by and proceed to the next one on the list.
You review example videos on their website, but how do you know which ones are good? How do you know if your prospective vendor was the creative driver? Maybe it was a marketing agency or even the customer. So look at as many examples as you can and ask lots of questions. (Look for Part II tomorrow)
